SHILLONG |March 31, 2019:

A total number of 15 shops were gutted in a major fire which broke out at Stand Bus, Mawlai Phudmuri on Sunday at around 2.30 am.

Besides the owner, Karamon Lyngdoh Nongbri, there are 14 tenants who own a shop in this old joint-wooden structure which was destroyed by the fire.

The elder brother of the owner, D Lyngdoh Nongbri said that the total damages will cross Rs 90 lakh.

According to him, the are yet to establish the reason which caused the fire. The fifteen shops which were destroyed in the fire include grocery shop, vegetable shop, fish and meat shop among others. In the fire incident, a Maruti car and Mahindra pick up which were parked behind the shop were also destroyed.

The residents said that the arrival of the fire tenders on time has prevented the fire to spread to the nearby houses. Local MLA, PT Sawkmie also visited the place to meet the owner of the building and the owner of these shops which was gutted in the fire.
