A 17-yr-old boy lost his life in a road mishap at Umkdait in Nongmynsong, Shillong here on Saturday. The accident happened at around 7.40 am.
Police informed that one Yahama Scooty (B/R ML 05 R 8831), ridden by the 17-yr-old boy, a resident of Nongmynsong and pillion rider (also 17 years of age), while proceeding from Nongmynsong Bazaar towards Itshyrwat dashed against one Maximo Cab (B/R ML 01 6940) which at that time was picking up passengers on the side of the road on the opposite direction.
It was informed that the rider was not wearing any helmet when the accident happened.
When asked how an underage driver was allowed to ride, police said that the parents were not aware that their son had gone to Ishyrwat adding that the scooty did not belong to any of the family members and that it belonged to one of their deceased son’s friends.
As a result, the said Scooty rider succumbed to his injuries on the way to NEIGRIHMS Hospital. The pillion rider received injuries and admitted for treatment at NEIGRIHMS.
Accordingly inquest was conducted over the dead body and post mortem was exempted following requests from family members.
