In a tragic incident, a 3-yr-old infant lost his life after he drowned in a nearby river while following his mother who had gone for a bath.
The incident of drowning took place on July 24 at about 4:30 PM, though the body of the infant was only recovered today, July 27, after an extensive search by villagers and police authorities in South Garo Hills.
The infant has been identified as Kasabio Ch Marak. The accident took place in the village of Sadaghat Wari (Dareng River) at Rampagre under Chokpot Block in the district.
According to information received, the infant is suspected to have fallen into the river while following his mother.
“We, along with the villagers searched for the child for the past 2 days but could not locate him. However the body of the child was recovered today near Mitapgre in the Darengchi River. After observation of all formalities, the body of the child was handed over to the family,” said Abraham T Sangma, the superintendent of police, SGH.
Post Mortem (PM) in the instant case was also exempted by the magistrate as no foul play was suspected.
