TURA | July 31, 2019:

A 36-year-old man allegedly murder his brother in law early morning today and later dumped his body at an abandoned ring well in Balsrigittim locality under Williamnagar police station in East Garo Hills.

However, hours after committing the crime, the accused Birit D Shira of Kusimikolgre (permanent resident of Nengchigen under Shallang, West Khasi Hills), surrendered to the police on Wednesday morning.

While the murder took place between 12:30 am to 1:30 am this morning, the alleged murderer surrendered himself to EGH police this morning at about 8:30 am.

A case of murder has been registered against one Birit D Shira at the Williamnagar PS.

“He appeared at the PS this morning and surrendered himself for the murder of his brother in law, Francis G Momin (Dingkam) at their residence at Upper Balsrigittim in Williamnagar. After the murder, he dumped the body in an abandoned ring well,” said superintendent of police, EGH, Ringrang TG Momin.

The recovery of the body took some time as the abandoned well was about 25-30 feet deep.

“Retrieving the body took some time as the well was narrow and there was a lack of oxygen. The body was finally brought out at about 1 pm this afternoon. All necessary formalities are being observed and case # PS C/No 31(7) 19 u/s 302/201 has been registered. An investigation is also on,” added the SP.

The SP added that the motive for the murder was being looked into and would only be known after thorough questioning.
