A total of 946 police personnel have been awarded medals by President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Independence Day 2019. Among them, nine hail from Meghalaya — Seven policemen and two home guard personnel.
Dy Inspector General of Police (Trg), Addison Roy Mawthoh and Dy Inspector General of Police (A), Seminar Singh Kynjing. The duo has been awarded President Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation for the year 2019 has been awarded to Sub Inspector Ibashisha Kharpran.
Also, Two officers from the state police have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service — Inspector of Police, Julie Nongkhlaw and Armed Branch Constable, Augustine Lyngdoh.
Among the list of awardees of Fire Service Personnel are Charlesstar Thabah and Lalan Roy.
Meanwhile, Lambert Marbaniang, Inspector and Kholindro D. Sangma, Havildar from Border Wing Home Guards Battalion, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong have been awarded the Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service.
The duo are amongst only 4 (four) other recipient of this Medal from the Civil Defence and Home Guards Organisation from the North East, this Independence Day. Assam and Tripura have 1 (one) medal winner each.
President Police Medals for Gallantry (PPMG) has been awarded to three personnel, Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) to 177 personnel, President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) to 89 personnel and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS) to 677 personnel.
Among the majority of the 180 gallantry awards, 114 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in J&K, 62 personnel for their gallant action in left-wing extremism affected areas and 4 personnel for their gallant action in the north-east region.
