NPP president calls PN Syiem “turncoat”, party to take disciplinary action

Meanwhile, the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in the state on Friday informed that disciplinary action will be taken against NPP MDC and KHADC Chairman, PN Syiem for “not abiding” by the party’s decision to stick with coalition partner — United Democratic Party (UDP).

“The disciplinary committee of the party would be sitting very soon to discuss the matter and take disciplinary action against Syiem,” said NPP state president, WR Kharlukhi.

Terming Syiem’s action as disrespectful, Kharlukhi called him a “turncoat”. “The decision of the party was to stick with the UDP which was not respected. He (Syiem) kept the party in the dark and failed to abide by the decision of the NPP,” said Kharlukhi.

The United Democratic Party (UDP), on the other hand, has expressed shocked over the “act of betrayal” by senior party leader, PN Syiem, who is also the Chairman of the KHADC.

NPP terms political upheaval as Congress’ attempt to come back to power in KHADC

The NPP president, WR Kharlukhi has termed the ongoing political drama in the KHADC as the attempt of the Congress to come back to power “through the backdoor and with the help of NPP turncoat MDC (PN Syiem)”.

“The people of Khasi hills have rejected the Congress in the last elections to the KHADC but the Congress, as it’s usual self, is trying to come back to power to the KHADC through the backdoor. NPP believes in the BJP slogan of a ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ and will not allow the Congress to gain a foot hole in the state,” said Kharlukhi.

“‘The government had recommended administrative rule for the KHADC to the Governor and it is up to the Governor to make his decision,” he added.

It may be mentioned that UDP-NPP led executive committee in the KHADC was toppled after NPP MDC and Chairman of KHADC, PN Syiem voted against the alliance when they were tied at 14-14 during the no confidence motion moved by the opposition congress against the executive committee on November 20.
