A Junior Commissioned Officer from Shillong was amongst the 13 troopers of the Assam Regiment who lost his life in the building collapse incident at Solan in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.
Sub (Late) Henkhomang was a resident of Happy Valley in Shillong. The mortal remains of Henkhomang and two other JCOs from Assam — Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary were brought to Guwahati by military aircraft on July 16.
The officers — Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary and Sub Henkhoman were given full military honors.
Brig R K Gaikwad, Commandant, Assam Regimental Centre and other dignitaries paid tributes to the departed at Guwahati on Tuesday after which the mortal remains were sent to respective home towns.
The last rites of Subedar Major Prodip Chandra Bhuyan was performed on the night of July 16 with full Military honour at his native place in Bhuyan patty in Nagoan.
The ceremonial cremation of Subedar Bisharsing Basumatary was carried out at Chhata Malgoan in Dhubri today.
Th funeral service of Sub (Late) Henkhomang’s,whose family and parents are staying at Happy Valley, Shillong was conducted at the Assam Regimental Centre cemetery with full military honors and was attended by the Commandant and all officers of the Centre, JCOs, OR as well as relatives and the local civil populace.
It may be mentioned that thirteen soldiers and a civilian were killed and 28 others rescued after a four-storey “unsafe” building in Himachal Pradesh’s Kumarhatti town where Assam Regiment troopers had stopped for lunch collapsed due to rain on Monday.
