Bangladesh Information Minister, Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the Bangladesh is looking to improve its ties with India especially with Meghalaya.

Mahmud who heads the eight member delegation told reporters on Tuesday, after a meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma at his chamber in the Main Secretariat.

After a meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Tuesday, which was held at his chamber in the Main Secretariat, Mahmud along with his eight member delegation while talking to the reporters said, “We are looking to improve the bilateral trade between the two neighboring countries. We would like to strengthen the two road link between Bangladesh and Meghalaya.”

He also said that the import and export between the two nations should be an area to focus. The Bangladesh Information Minister also talks about the weekly bus service between Bangladesh and India which has help to improve the friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries.

According to him, strengthening of the road link would ensure more vehicles from Bangladesh which comes to Meghalaya. When asked about the border haats, he said that the proposal for setting up border haats should come from Meghalaya.

“The Chief Minister has stressed on the need to make the border haats more effective,” Dr Mahmud added.
