In a new twist to the much-hyped by-poll in Ampati, it is speculated that the by-poll battle for the Ampati seat which goes to poll on May 28 may turn out to be a two-horse affair after the BJP contestant, Bakul Hajong said that his candidature was still undecided.
While Miani D Shira, the Congress candidate and NPP candidate, Clement G Momin have already filed her nomination yesterday and today, Hajong’s candidature is yet to be decided by the BJP leadership.
When contacted, Hajong said that he was in talks with the state BJP leadership in Shillong and is awaiting their response. “I will most likely not contest this time as being a part of the NDA coalition, talks are on to drop my nomination. A decision is being taken currently by the state president along with other leaders on the matter but from the vibes, I will most likely not contest,” said Hajong.
Hajong also ruled out contesting as an independent and will go with the decision of the party. Hajong stood second on a BJP ticket in the just concluded election in Ampati, losing to former CM, Dr Mukul Sangma.
