In a terrifying accident, a 10-year-old boy identified as Sachin Koch was crushed under the wheels of the truck in which he was travelling as part of the Durga Puja immersion procession in Purakahsia, West Garo Hills on Tuesday.

According to information received, Sachin Koch of Borjhora village had joined a group of his friends in the back of the truck carrying the idol for immersion in Purakhasia yesterday. The immersion party was moving towards the Purakhasia river.


The 10-year-old apparently lost his grip and fell from the side of the truck. Before anything could be done to save the boy, the back wheels of the vehicle went over his body crushing him to death.

He was rushed to the local primary health centre where he was declared brought dead.

It may be mentioned that a similar incident took place in Shillong yesterday when a man identified as Atul Arora (42) from Nongmynsong was killed after he was ran over by a truck at Polo. It was reported that the man was walking when he slipped and fell down on the road side right at a time when a truck (ML05 C 3959) was passing through.
