SHILLONG | Aug 13, 2019:
The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the proposal to reduce distance of setting up of teer counters from the educational institutions and place of worship from the existing 300 meters to 100 meters.
“We have approved the proposal to reduce the distance to set up teer counters from the educational institutions and place of worship to 100 meters,” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the Cabinet meeting here today.
Tynsong informed that the Excise, Registration, Taxation and Stamps (ERTS) department had brought the proposal to reduce the distance by amending Section 1 of Meghalaya Regulation of the Game of Arrow, Shooting and sale of teer ticket acts, 2018 in the form of ordinance.
“As per the original Act, the distance for setting up of teer counters was allowed within a minimum distance of 300 meters from the educational institutions and place of worship,” Deputy Chief Minister said.
While justifying the move, Tynsong said that the decision to reduce the distance is justified since 300 meter distance is quite huge for a place like Shillong. “Therefore, we felt that the proposal made by the ERTS is justified considering the space constraint in Shillong city,” he said.
