The local residents of Qualapatty in Shillong have expressed their anguish over the “negligence” of the State Fire Services, which they claimed had led to the untimely death of an elderly couple in a raging fire which engulfed the century-old building of the Church of God today morning.

In a tragic incident, three school children (all cousins), with the eldest being merely 6 years of age, drowned in a fish pond at Miapara village near Manikganj under Mendipathar PS in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Tuesday, Oct 29 at about 3 pm.

One person lost his life and at least 20 BSF jawans and a civilian (driver) were seriously injured after an ‘over-speeding’ bus went offroad and fell in a 100-feet deep gorge at Umtyraa in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya on Wednesday at around 4.30 pm.
