Meghalaya: Laban Sports Club could pull out of football due to financial crunch

SHILLONG, April 7, 2018: Laban Sports Club, the oldest of their kind in Meghalaya, have released the players in their football team and could pull out of football entirely as they cannot meet the financial costs required to run the squad.

Meghalaya: Huge cache of buried arms recovered from Garo Hills

SHILLONG, April 2, 2018
Arms and  ammunition belonging to GNLA-Garo National Liberation Army has been recovered from Garo Hills.
In a major recovery, police on Sunday recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition buried in the earth from the jungles near Dorengkigre village in East Garo Hills.
Based on  information, a search team was sent along with deep search metal detectors. 21 pistols, magazines, 2 walkie talkie sets, some arrow heads, GNLA seals and GNLA documents were recovered from the jungles.

Meghalaya govt forming group of Ministers to lift coal ban

Meghalaya: Girls to be trained to fight sexual harassment in WKH district

SHILLONG, March 26, 2018: Taking a cue from the Delhi police model of self-defense programme for girls, West Khasi Hills district authorities in Meghalaya have appointed former Karate world champion Linza F Syiem to train school girls to fight against sexual harassment.
Announcing this, district deputy commissioner said “for the first time we are starting a month-long comprehensive self defense training under the District Sports Promotion Society.
” He said the initiative was aimed at a deterrent against eve teasing, hooliganism, indecent behavior or public nuisance on the road.West Khasi Hills district has a high numbers of POCSO cases and the number of such cases has risen in the last three years, he said.
The National Crime Research Bureau recorded 6.8 per cent crime against women in 2015. The percentage more than doubled in 2016.

The self defense program will be funded by the District Sports Promotion Society and the district Sports Officer P B War Nongbri said this was the first time that his office was organizing such a programme.
