The MeECL Joint Action Committee today impressed upon the State Government to start the payment of the terminal liabilities of the 3000 plus permanent employees amounting to Rs 840 crore as on March 31, 2010.

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma informed that the MDA partners are still deliberating on the issue of stripping the Home portfolio from James PK Sangma even as he asserted that no decision has been taken in this connection.

Meghalaya | Former Tripura HC Chief Justice T Vaiphei takes charge as chairman of MSHRC

Former Chief Justice of Tripura High Court Justice T Vaiphei has taken over charge as the new chairman of the Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission, officials said here on Monday.

Vaiphei assumed charge of MSHRC chairman on February 7, they said.

He is the first judicial officer from State of Mizoram to be elevated to the position of Chief Justice of High Courts of India.

Five suspected Bangladeshi miscreants attacked two youths from Pyrkan village, Shella in East Khasi Hills today at around 2.30 pm, injuring the duo severely.

Kidnapped traders from Assam rescued by SWGH police

The South West Garo Hills police today managed to rescue the three Assam-based traders, who were kidnapped by miscreants earlier this week, in an early morning raid. They were rescued this morning from near the village of Taktaki under Ampati PS in SWGH.
