Plain belt of WGH declared flood-hit area; over 1.14 lakh affected

The plain belt of West Garo Hills continue to reel under floods even after the rains have subsided in these past two days.

With the water levels continuing to rise despite the lack of rain in the area, the plain belt of WGH have been declared flood-hit area.

Tribal Affairs Ministry sanctions Rs 42 cr for setting up of “Tribal Institute” in Garo Hills

JOWAI | July 14, 2019:

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Sunday informed that the Tribal Affairs Ministry has sanctioned Rs 42 crore for setting up of the “Tribal Research Institute” to study the cultural aspects of all the tribes of the state.

He further said that the proposed institute will be set up in Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.

The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday has approved the proposal made by the Finance Department for enhancement of salary of the chairman and members of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission as per the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.

Meghalaya becomes 1st state in India to have draft Water Policy

SHILLONG | July 13, 2019:

The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday finally approved the draft of the State Water Policy, 2019.

The draft of the State Water Policy was formulated way back in 2015. But the previous State Governments were not able to bring the draft of the policy before the Cabinet due to several reasons.
