SNSBH to take stringent steps if joint meeting with govt over VAB is not held


Shillong, November 20, 2017: Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) has threatened to take stringent steps if the State Government fails to invite them for talks within the first week of December to deliberate on the much talked about Village Administration Bill (VAB).

“We are serving a deadline till December first week to invite us for a talk to deliberate on VAB. We will again meet if the State Government failed to response to our demand for talks. We might take some stringent if the Government failed to invite us for talks,” SNSBH president Dr. Werlok Kharshiing told newsmen after the meeting here on Saturday.

Sounder Strong Cajee all set to join NPP


Shillong, November 20, 2017: Former KHADC MDC from Mylliem, Sounder Strong Cajee is all set to join the Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) for contesting in the upcoming 2018 Assembly elections from Shillong south constituency. Informed sources on Sunday, informed that the NPP party leadership will formally annouce the joining of Cajee to the party in a day or two.

Meghalaya Police and Assam Rifles Joint Operation: NSCN (K) Finance Secy arrested in Shillong


SHILLONG, Nov 20, 2017: In a major breakthrough, the ‘finance secretary’ of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) Inovi Avika Assumi who was an accused of extortion racket was arrested in a joint operation carried out by Assam Rifles and Meghalaya police in Shillong on Saturday night.

According to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Davies R Marak, Meghalaya Police and Assam Rifles troopers raided Assumi’s hideout at Demseiniong area on Saturday night.

Meghalaya’s call on militant outfits to lay down arms


SHILLONG, November 18, 2017: The Meghalaya government has called on banned militant outfits asking them to surrender arms and join the mainstream by taking advantage of rehabilitation programmes. CM Mukul Sangma said that the existing government has come up with a strategy to create a conducive atmosphere for militants to withdraw from unlawful activities and avail government programmes, which include training, rehabilitation and negotiation.

Sangma also said, “In view of our past experiences, we ask militants to practice peace, withdraw from banned organizations and assimilate with the national mainstream.”

Shillong, November 18: The Meghalaya State Security Commission has directed the police department to fix unresolved issues that has emerged in the recruitment process to ensure an earlier recruitment for nearly 3000 vacant posts.

The Commission, chaired by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, held a thorough discussion on the course of actions required to be taken following the High Court ruling and came up with the directions to the police.

3 villages in Garobadha without electricity for more than two months


Tura, November 18,2017: The concept of collective punishment that has now become the norm of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has ensured that at least 3 villages in Garobadha under Rangsakona constituency is currently without electricity after their transformer malfunctioned more than 2 months ago.

The villages of Golmangre, Nokatgre, Dopatchigre and Chisergre are all under darkness for varying amounts of  time and are unlikely to see repairs done by the department soon. While the transformer of Golmangre malfunctioned on May 20, Nokatgre has been without electricity since 3 July, Dopatchigre since Aug 18 and Chiseregre since Aug 29.
