Meghalaya activist raises issue of illegal transportation of coal with NGT

Concerned over reports of recurring illegal transportation of coal in Meghalaya, an activist, Kingstone Bolwary on Tuesday filed a complaint with the NGT panel in the state over the allegations. In his complaint, Bolwari stated that illegal mining as well as transport is taking place.

Despite Supreme Court ban on transportation of coal, the coal traders in West Khasi Hills have now begin to supply coal in the form of coke. The SC in its order had ban transportation of coal, other than those already extracted from various sites under the guidance of the NGT committee.
