The candidature of Congress bigwig, Dr Mukul Sangma received a boost in Garo Hills with the decision of the Garo National Council (GNC) to extend its support to the Congress MP candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Meghalaya Democratic Alliance’s (MDA) common candidate Agatha Sangma has filed her nomination today in Tura. She will be contesting for the Tura Lok Sabha constituency that comprises of 24 Legislative Assembly segments.
The National People’s Party (NPP) on March 15 announced the name of former Union Minister, Agatha Sangma as a common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance, who will be contesting the Lok Sabha Polls from Tura constituency in Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that the Tura Parliamentary constituency is set to witness a high voltage combat between former Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma who is the Congress Tura LS candidate and former Union Minister Agatha Sangma, the MDA front runner.
Meghalaya is set to witness polls on April 11 and counting will be held on March 23.

Congress Tura MP candidate and Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday lashed out at the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma over his statement on flagship programmes introduced by the previous MUA government, and called him a ‘hypocrite’ and a ‘puppet’.
When asked whether there was any sign of murder, EKH SP (city) Steve Rynjah said “We did not find any signs of murder but that cannot be ascertained until and unless we receive the post mortem report.”
