Assam police arrest 5 kidnappers including 4 with GNLA link from interstate border

Assam police of South Salmara district on Saturday apprehended 5 suspected kidnappers, with four allegedly belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in an operation neat the Hat Singimari Super Market this afternoon at about 4:30 pm.

Garo Hills’ most wanted criminal escapes police custody yet again

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will convene a joint meeting between the education department and the finance department next week to find a solution to the issue related to releasing of pending dues to over 12,000 SSA teachers in the state.

Meghalaya sees increase in funds from NEC, DoNER; service sector highest contributor informs Guv

The funding from the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Ministry of DoNER in the current financial year for the State has increased.
This was informed by Governor Ganga Prasad while addressing the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly today.

The Governor said that the assistance received from NEC under the regional plan scheme was Rs 45.98 crore during the year 2017-18 as against the release of Rs 41.96 crore during 2016-17.

The funds received from the Ministry of DoNER under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources was Rs 84.85 crore in 2017-18 as against Rs 76.98 crore in 2016-17.

Prasad also said that during 2016-17 the advance estimates for the Gross State Domestic Product at current market was Rs 25, 765.96 crore showing an increase growth of 9.28 percent over previous years.

According to the Governor, the primary sector accounts for 20.60 percent, secondary sector contribution accounts for 27.92 percent while contribution of the service sector stands at 51.49 percent.


“The per capita GSDP of the state at current price for the year 2016-17 (Adv) stood at Rs 77, 121,” Prasad said.

The Governor also said that under the externally aided project, two projects, namely, Community Led Eco-System Management Project which aims at management of micro-sheds that are not covered under Integrated Watershed Management Programme to reverse progressive deforestation, unscientific quarrying and mining and stabilize critically important hydro logical service at village level in the state and the Integrated Transport Sector Development Project for Improvement of Livelihood and Empowerment of Women in Remote Tribal Areas which stressed upon road connectivity have been cleared by the Ministry for implementation in the state.
