Meghalaya delegation likely to meet Shah on Tuesday on ILP resolution

Shillong, Feb 17:

The NPP led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition Government has pinned high hopes on it’s meeting with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah which is likely to be held either on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

The leaders from the State to be led by Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma are expected to raise before Union Home Minister on the resolution adopted by the Assembly to urge upon the Centre for implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the State.

The meeting was long over due since the State Government had been eager to meet Amit Shah ever since after Christmas celebrations last year.

Talking to reporters here today, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that they are waiting for the confirmation from the office of the Union Home Minister.

“We are expecting to meet Amit Shah either tomorrow evening or on Wednesday morning,” Chief Minister said.

According to Sangma, few of his cabinet colleagues have already left for Delhi adding that he would be leaving with some of his Cabinet colleagues to Delhi tomorrow.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA and Health Minister, AL Hek told that he would be leaving for New Delhi today even as stated that he hopes for a positive outcome from this meeting with Union Home Minister.

United Democratic Party general Secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said that everyone is hoping that the meeting will bear fruits.

On the growing sense of impatience due to the delay, he said that in politics one needs to have patience and the  objective is to bring a controlled mechanisim to check illegal immigration and their focus is on that.

He reasoned that the state has been demanding for the last four decades to bring effective controlled mechanisim so a little more wait should be okay. He hoped that the Union Minister will also be forthcoming with the demand of the state.

It may be mentioned that under pressure from the various Civil society groups and NGOs, the state government had passed a resolution to pursue the centre to implement  ILP in the state on Dec 19. However, despite several attempts to fix an appointment with the Union Home Minister, the talks have so far not yet materialised.
