Meghalaya ADC polls show dismal women representation: 7 from KHADC and 1 from JHADC

February 10, 2019

The representation of women in elections has been a topic of debate time and again and yet the the participation of women in polls- be it local, regional or national remains dismal despite innumerable discussions and deliberations.

Proving this true yet again, an analysis of the upcoming Meghalaya Autonomous District Council Polls including KHADC and JHADC shows that out of as many as 230 candidates contesting the district council elections, women representation stands at only 3.5 per cent.

In KHADC, out of 131 total candidates, only 7 are women while in the JHADC, there is only one woman candidate.

The elections are scheduled for February 27. The nomination and scrutiny of the same was completed on Feb 8.
