KHADC CEM’s ‘HIV’ remarks: What HS Shylla has to say

Shillong, Aug 29, 2018: 

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), HS Shylla has defended his ‘HIV’ remarks where he stated that the Khasi Lineage Bill will protect the Khasi community from HIV- AIDS even as he referred to mixed-marriages with ‘truck drivers and migrant workers’ from outside the state, as one of the reasons leading to the increase of the epidemic in the state.

In his defence, Shylla had stated the spread of the HIV/AIDs is a huge threat to the Khasi community even as he ‘sympathizes’ with the people who have been infected by this virus.

The perfect example for the same can be drawn from the depths of the Sacred Groves in Meghalaya.

It might sound scary, weird and mysterious. But the fact remains that till date, people don’t dare flout these sets of rules for their own benefits fearing punishment of all sorts from their God of the land –‘U Ba-sa Ryngkew’.
