NPP candidate Marcuise Marak won the Williamnagar poll battle by securing 9558 votes beating his closest opponent — Independent candidate Sengbath Marak by 4860 without postal ballot tally. Sengbath managed to secure 4698 votes.
Following closely behind Sengbath was Congress candidate and former MLA, Deborah Marak who managed to secure only 4517 votes.
Following NPP’s victory, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma congratulated and thanked the people of 43-Williamnagar Constituency on behalf of National People’s Party for having faith in their candidate and the party.
He said, “On this occasion, as we celebrate the victory of NPP and our candidate Marcuise Marak, I would like to thank God for being with us in our journey and mission to create a new Meghalaya”, while adding, “I am confident that Marcuise Marak will provide leadership and represent the voice and aspiration of the people of Williamnagar Constituency. Marcuise Marak has been part of our party for long and has worked hard to strengthen the party. His experience and leadership qualities will help NPP to further push growth and development in Meghalaya.
Conrad dedicated this victory to the people, the party, and his late father Purno Agitok Sangma.
