The sitting Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Shillong constituency Vincent H Pala will be fielded as Congress’ candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat while former chief minister and current Opposition leader Mukul Sangma will be fielded as Congress’ candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

The decision was taken by the Congress screening committee in the presence of several party leaders from across the country earlier today.

Congress spokesperson HM Shangpliang had said that as far as the Shillong seat is concerned the party has a history of winning it, and it is now all geared up to add the Tura seat to its kitty as well. He said that Vincent Pala has emerged as a strong contender for Shillong. Stating that grassroots party workers are well prepared, he said that parliamentary elections are dierent from MDC elections and the Congress is going to win.

The Lok Sabha polls have been scheduled to take place on April 11.
