The demise of Meghalaya Speaker Dr Donkupar Roy is a great loss to the entire North East, said Assam minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sarma, who visited Shillong on Tuesday to pay his respect to the departed leader, said recalled his association with Late Dr Roy.
Stating that they shared a very cordial relationship, Assam Health Minister said they worked together during the government formation of the state.
“He was a man of strong commitment and a tallest leader of North East and this loss is a loss of the North East,” said Sarma.
“He was a father figure whom we looked upto if there was any political crisis in the region,” Sarma added.
“On behalf of NEDA, BJP and the people of Assam I offer our condolence. We have lost a great leader and it will be difficult to compensate his loss,” said the BJP leader.
Sarma had first met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at the state secretariat and then moved on together to the residence of the late Dr Donkupar Roy. He interacted with the family members and offered his condolence.
