It’s quite obvious that we need to look at all the aspects, especially the one which matter in longer run as far as cost is considered, quite carefully. And electricity requirement for a purifier is nothing different than that. You will find a variety of these appliances in the market, both with and without power requirement.
And if you don’t know the difference, it is really a backstep for you since it may hit you back afterwards. Apart of just using electricity, there are many major difference in the electric and non-electric type of water purifiers which is important to know so that you can buy the best water purifier in the current market.
5 Differences Between Electric And Non Electric Water Purifier
Electric Water Purifier | Non Electric Water Purifier | |
Purification Technology used | RO,UV | UF, Sediment |
Water Purifier Type | RO and UV purifier | Sediment and UF purifier |
Membrane Used | RO membrane | UF and sediment Membrane |
Cost | Costly then non-electric purifiers | Cheaper then electric purifiers |
Warranty | 1 Year | 1 Year |
1. The Technology used for Purification
They have a completely different type of purifications systems and techniques installed in them. Where a majority of the electric purifiers come with reverse osmosis (RO) and/or ultraviolet (UV) system, the non-electric systems are with basic sediment filters and sometimes with ultra-fine filter (UF) membrane.
So basically everything that is connected to electricity for purifying comes in electric purifiers and same for non-electric one.

2. Cost
Obviously, this will be the key factor of difference. You will get almost all the non-electric purifiers at lower price than that of an electric one. However, if you see, only RO purifiers will have considerable cost and not which comes with UV system installed.
If cost is the major concern for you and you don’t want to spend too much on a water purifier, I would say a non-electric purifier will be good for you.
3. Treatment of Incoming Water
This might be the factor that will matter the most in choosing the right one for you. If you have water will lot of impurities, which always looks turbid and you think it has a high percentage of minerals, then without a doubt and irrespective of the size of your pocket, you should go for the electric purifier.
However, if the water quality is not so bad, like in urban areas and only concern might be of minerals, then it is non-electric which you are looking for. All in all, for not so good quality, the electric purifier is perfect.
As all this fuss is for good amount of outgoing quality of water, you should also have a look at what kind of water you get in hand to get treated.
4. Type of Purification
This should be another filter for you to choose one for your home. Both types of purifiers work differently and remove a different set of impurities. Electric purifiers work mostly on dissolved solids, viruses and bacterias, which are mostly present in water that comes in an urban area.
Whereas dissolved chemicals, germs, viruses, suspended matter and sand are taken care by non-electric purifiers, which are basically what rural water contain an initial delivery.
So, for viruses and bacteria, an electric one and for suspended matter and minerals, non-electric one. At the end, all we need is to remove such matter from water and have a clean, clear and safe drinking water.
5. Other Differences
After the major difference between both, there are still other factors you should be looking at while choosing the best water purifier. Firstly, non-electric purifiers are unable to convert your incoming hard water into soft water. Might not be a problem if you have ample amount of water for all purposes.
But, in case, if there arises a case where you have to use water from purifier for other purposes like washing clothes and cleaning utensils, the water from non-electric purifier will not be able to make foam out of the soaps used and that will result in ineffective working.
So, majorly in urban areas, you have to have an electric one. Of course, non-electric purifiers use gravity to settle down the suspended matter and chemicals and hence it should not be a problem for installation.
But electric purifier usually occupies a clean, leak-proof vacant place in the kitchen and hence can be a major concern during installation.
These were the major points of differences between electric and non-electric purifiers. Hope you choose wisely and bring home the right one.
