Launching yet another attack on Meghalaya Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday alleged that Conrad K Sangma is the “nominee” of the BJP.
“Despite having only two MLAs, the BJP is controlling the Government in the State. He (Conrad) is nothing but the nominee of the BJP,” Dr Mukul, who is the former Chief Minister of the State, said during an informal interaction with the media persons here today.
According to the Leader of Opposition, the regional parties are not seeing this reality, “since they are still in a honeymoon period”.
It may be mentioned that three regional parties of the state — United Democratic Party, People’s Democratic Front and Hill State People’s Democratic Party are part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance coalition.
Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister said that there is no alternative to the Congress in the country.
“The Congress for whatever it has done is the only option available. The people have seen what happened after allowing the BJP to be in the helms of affairs,” the Leader of Opposition said.
On the doubts over the leadership quality of AICC president, Rahul Gandhi, the Meghalaya Leader of Opposition said that such “question marks” are being brought only by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the BJP.
“Their job is to create a negative perception. They created that even in Meghalaya by making various allegations against me,” Dr Sangma said.
He also said that the BJP is using the regional parties in the Northeast to stop the Congress from coming to power.
“This will change because of the anti-people agenda (of the BJP),” Dr Sangma said.
The Congress leader also pointed out that the notification issued by the centre banning illegal slaughtering of cows during Bakrid was allowed to be implemented in the state because “the NPP was a partner of the BJP”.
