State Police denies HNLC claims of Romeo Lyngdoh being a ‘police informer’
Meanwhile, the state police has denied the claims made by the HNLC that Romeo Lyngdoh was a ‘police informer’. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Claudia Lyngwa today said that he (Romeo) was an ‘overground worker’ of the Khasi political outfit.
“He was collecting funds for the outfit. But lately he started to pocket some of the collections for himself because he started to become greedy,” Lyngwa sadi while talking to reporters here today.
According to her, he was killed by the outfit due to his betrayal. Meanwhile, the SP said that it is not true that the outfit was looking for him for the last three years.
“It would not be difficult for HNLC to locate him since Lapalang is a village with only few hundred families,” the SP said.
Lyngwa said that the HNLC cadres know Romeo very well since they had called him by his nickname “balieh” on the night he was shot.
She also pointed out that in the year 2016, two HNLC cadres and a ULFA cadre were arrested from Pynursla along with explosives and the vehicle that they used belonged to Romeo.
It may be mentioned that in 2016 the banned HNLC had planned to plant IEDs in Shillong city but could not do so and while returning to Bangladesh they were apprehended by the state police.
Lyngwa also said that the outfit killed Romeo because they wanted to send a message to the lower rank members to give full allegiance to the HNLC.
