WILLIAMNAGAR, Jan 15, 2019:

: In view of the prohibition of coal mining in any form by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the entire state of Meghalaya and the Civil Appeal in the Supreme Court of India, East Garo Hills District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe, has promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC thereby strictly prohibiting any extraction or mining of coal in the entire district, transportation of coal without proper Transit Challans and transportation of coal in excess of assessed or permissible quantity.

The official communiqué in this regard stated that any violation of this order will invite penal action under Section 188 of the IPC and the Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.

Earlier, the Supreme Court on Tuesday banned transportation of coal in Meghalaya till February 19, refusing to grant more time to mine owners to transport the coal that has already been extracted.
