The former chairman of the ANVC (B), Bernard (Rimpu) Marak has expressed concern over the increasing number of overloaded of trucks plying from Bhutan to Bangladesh via Garo hills even as he claimed this has led to the destruction of the roads in state, which needs to be stopped immediately.
He stated that the trucks have been secretly plying from Phulbari Tikrikilla and Tura Dalu road which is in a pathetic condition causing inconvenience to the public.
Marak alleged that the over-loaded trucks have been plying at night with the help of some pressure group leaders, who have been escorting these trucks for commission.
On September 2, some of these trucks passed through Tura Ringre market at around 5.30 pm, putting the lives of public at stake due to reckless driving and speeding, there has been a series of accident in the past with no compensation being paid to the victims, he said.
Marak has urged the Government of Meghalaya and the District Administration to immediately take strict actions at the same time, prevent the reckless drivers from causing menace in the state.
