TURA | Oct 9, 2019:
A day after a 17-yr-old girl went missing from her home located under Tikrikilla PS in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, her body was found this morning from Bhimganj village in Goalpara, Assam, in what is being suspected to be a case of poisoning.
Another 22-year-old youth from the same village, who is suspected to have lured the teen, was also found in a critical state after he too had consumed poison in an attempt at suicide.
The bodies of the two victims were found this morning in Bhimganj under Lakhipur PS in Assam. While the teen’s body was brought today to Tura for post mortem, the 22 year old youth, identified as Mahabul Hoque was rushed to Goalpara, where his condition is said to be critical.
According to locals, the family of the girl had filed a missing case at the Tikrikilla PS in West Garo Hills after which the information was circulated to all PCR to locate the girl. The case had been filed on Tuesday, Oct 8.
Sources further added that the girl and the youth were allegedly in a relationship. However, both families rejected the match after the girl was taken to the house of Hoque. They allegedly decided to end their lives following which both consumed poison, leading to the tragic scene today.
Furthermore, another FIR was lodged by the parents of the victim against Hoque relating to kidnapping and wrongful confinement. Following the events that unfolded, the Goalpara administration has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
An inquest by a magistrate was supposed to be done today in Tura but has been postponed to tomorrow due to a technical snag.
“We are awaiting the post mortem report which should provide more clarity,” said superintendent of police, WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.
Some locals, however, insisted it was a case of kidnapping and murder and sought a full investigation into the matter.
