The Deputy speaker recalled the experience and leadership qualities of the late Speaker when he had the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chief Minister in his Ministry and then now as his Deputy Speaker.
The Commissioner & Secretary recalled with fondness the brief period that he served with the late Speaker. He feels that Dr Donkupar Roy is one of the legendary tall public figure that the State has produced. The late Speaker was a quiet, soft spoken with low profile, but a very experienced and astute person, and also had an academic mind. He was also a very active Leader of Opposition. “I will always cherish the short time that I served with him and cherish the warm memories,” he said.

It is a huge lost for regionalism in Meghalaya. The contribution of Dr Donkupar Roy has been immense. He has erased package based politics with simple based politics. The party has always believed in collective leadership. Although it is a massive lost for the party, yet we are confident that we will be able to steer ahead given the collective nature of leadership within the party.
NCP leader, Saleng A Sangma

His untimely demise is a huge lost for the regional forces in the State.

The MDA coalition partners will meet tomorrow to condole the death of Dr Roy.

The death of Dr Roy is not a loss only to the regional forces but to the State as a whole. He was the senior most MLA of the present House. As a first time MLA, I was expecting to learn so many things from him. But now he has left us.
Former Speaker, AT Mondal
I am deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden and untimely demise of Dr. Donkupar Roy, Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly who was one of the illustrious and farsighted leaders of the state. As I have seen him, he was a leader who loved to guide the juniors, had an amiable character to associates with everyone across the party line and a vast source of knowledge and experience. I vividly and candidly remember my association with him specially during my tenure as the Speaker of the House, where he was always ready to help and guide me in many important and crucial matters relating to the Legislature.
As the longest serving member in the present House, he handled the public responsibilities with politeness and deliberated issues concerning his people, constituency and those of the state with extraordinary sensitivity, determination and commitment. He was an avid orator, who could sway and draw the attention of the House on crucial issues affecting the people and the state. With his sudden demise, the state has lost a great son and he will be missed by all sections of the people of the state in the future.
At this hour of grief, I deeply mourn the untimely demise of our beloved leader and convey my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
