Shillong, Feb 18:

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Monday informed that the State Government is targeting to start direct flight from Shillong to Delhi from March this year.

“We are targeting to start the direct flight from Shillong to Delhi this coming March. We are hoping to complete all the paper works and formalities at the earliest,” Sangma said while talking to reporters yesterday.

According to him, the Government has floated tenders even as informing that the pre-bid meeting will be held this week.

“We will be able know on the potential parties who are keen to start the direct flight once we have the pre-bid meeting. We will go ahead with the potential bidders who will give us the best deal,” Meghalaya Chief Minister said.

It may be mentioned that this move of the state government comes after it started the Shillong- Kolkata flight of indigo in July last year aimed towards making Shillong accessible as a tourist destination.

One such initiative to connect Shillong to different North Eastern states was under the UDAN scheme which never saw the light of the day.

The Government could not connect Shillong with New Delhi since the scheme is limited to a certain square kilometer and hence the idea did not apply.
