SHILLONG | May 19, 2019:
The Election department for the first time has set up the model counting hall for the counting of the two Parliamentary seats in the State.
“We have set up the model counting hall for the counting of the votes of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled on May 23,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Frederick Kharkongor told reporters recently.
It may be mentioned that the voting for the Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats was held on April 11.
According to Kharkongor, the model counting hall will have VPPAT counting booths. Earlier, Kharkongor said that as per the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI), there will be counting of VPPATs slips for polling stations in each Assembly constituencies. With the State having 60 Assembly constituencies, there will counting of VVPATs slips in the 300 polling stations across the state.
Further, the Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to draw the those VVPAT counting officers, who have experienced in counting including cashier.
Counting will be held in 13 centres in the state and elaborate arrangements have been made in this regard with only few days left for the declaration of results.
The CEO further said that training will be provided to the counting personnel ahead of May 23.
One platoon of central para-military forces was deployed to guard the EVMs and the security personnel will also ensure security during counting.
