Days after thunderstorms disrupted normal life across the country, the Ri-bhoi district of the northeastern state of Meghalaya, witnessed a heavy downpour of rain and powerful winds on Sunday. Gusts of wind knocked down roofs, trees and destroyed a number of homes.

The highway along Umiam lake and the Umiam viewpoint was also strewn with uprooted trees and branches resulting in quite as scare for passengers travelling along the region. The Met Department had issued several warnings of stormy weather in the last couple of weeks and it looks like the passing disturbances will continue to affect the region throughout the week.
