SHILLONG | June 05, 2019:

The West Jaintia Hills police rescued several young girls between the age of 14 to 16 yrs, who were victims of human trafficking, from various localities of Jowai town in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.

Police also arrested 8 people, who were allegedly involved in a flesh trade.

The accused persons have been identified as Sten (26) from Kyrwen, Riwandakaru Dann (22) from Ladthadlaboh, Sanwaki Dkhar (28) from Khliehiongriang, Lemi Ryngkhlem (20), Elison Dkhar (24), Emryngkatmitre Dkhar (20) and Prosperity Talang (22) from Demthring and another 18 years old woman from Sohkynphor.

West Jaiñtia Hills SP Lakador Syiem said that they have managed to rescue 9 girls from different places, 5 from Mihmyntdu on Monday and four from different parts of Jowai town.

Syiem informed that the people, who were arrested, were also involved in hunting young girls and also customers, who are ready to pay a huge sum of money.

According to the SP, they have managed to arrest and rescue the young minors due to the efforts of the woman police under the leadership of Officer Incharge, Sub Inspector I Kharpran with the support Special Juvenile Unit, Child Line, Child Welfare Committee, District Social Welfare Officer and the ANTF.
