Shillong, Aug 29, 2018:

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), HS Shylla has defended his ‘HIV’ remarks where he stated that the Khasi Lineage Bill will protect the Khasi community from HIV- AIDS even as he referred to mixed-marriages with ‘truck drivers and migrant workers’ from outside the state, as one of the reasons leading to the increase of the epidemic in the state.

In his defence, Shylla had stated the spread of the HIV/AIDs is a huge threat to the Khasi community even as he ‘sympathizes’ with the people who have been infected by this virus.
