In a latest political development in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), HSPDP MDC from Mylliem, Teilinia Thangkhiew has been appointed as the new Deputy CEM of the KHADC.

It may be mentioned that the Council has not had a Deputy CEM for a long time and the last one to occupy the chair was Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie.

Sources informed that Governor Ganga Prasad approved the list submitted by the Council on Monday.

Besides Thangkhiew, UDP MDC from Umsning Donkupar Sumer has also been inducted as the new Executive Member of the Executive Committee in the Council.

Sumer had held the post of the EM in the EC led by KHADC PN Syiem in the past.

The induction of the two new members in the EC came after the CEM dropped James Sylliang as the EM and Banteidor Lyngdoh vacated his post as the EM after he was inducted as the Minister in the State Cabinet.

It may be mentioned that both the UDP and HSPDP had recently offered to support the PN Syiem led EC. With the NCP offering their support to the EC, now only the Congress is in the opposition in the KHADC.
