A vehicular accident in 14th mile, Ri Bhoi, on Tuesday morning killed the president of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Mawdiangum Unit and left another seriously injured.
The deceased has been identified as Sabathani Lyngdoh, 31, alias Paplu of Mawdiangum, Nongpoh while the driver is named Richard Maring of Mawkapiah.
The incident took place at around 7am when the victims were en route Nongpoh. While driving the vehicle, Maring crashed into the rear side of a truck that was parked along the National Highway leaving the car completely mangled.
The victims were immediately rushed to the nearby Byrnihat PHC where Lyngdoh was declared brought dead by the medical officer. The driver Maring, on the other hand, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Guwahati for treatment.
The Union has since released a condolence message for the victim. The statement read, “The KSU offers deep condolences to the victim, Sabathani Lyngdoh, who died in a car accident at Byrnihat on Tuesday. Sabanathi was the president of the KSU Mawdiangum Unit and the Assistant Office Secratary of the KSU Nongpoh Circle. He was one of the thirty-three members of the KSU who was held during the railway protests last year.”
