The 5-day Autumn Session of the 10th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly began today with the house paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Governor MM Jacob and other politicians from across the country, who passed away in the last 6 months.
Speaking during the Obituary References, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the former Prime Minister of India had “special love and connection” for the people of the northeast.
“He took keen interest for the welfare of the people in the Northeast and this was reflected in the various schemes and programmes that the former Prime Minister sanctioned for its development,” said Sangma.
Recalling further about late Vajpayee, the chief minister said that the former Prime Minister and his father, late PA Sangma, shared great understanding and camaraderie.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the Annual Report for the financial year 2015-2016 and 2016-2017, of the Meghalaya Society for Social Audit and Transparency.
He also presented the Supplementary Demands for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for the year 201-19. Sangma also introduced the Meghalaya Essential Services maintenance (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
The CM further introduced the Meghalaya Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Bill, 2018 and the Meghalaya Societies registration (amendment) Bill, 2018.
