Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Saturday said that they are yet to discuss on the issue of common candidate of the MDA partners for both Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats.
“We would have to discuss among the MDA partners before taking a final call on the issue of the common candidates,” Tynsong said while speaking to a group of reporters here today.
When asked whether the UDP is allowed to project the candidate from the party as the common candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat, being one of the major ally in the coalition, Deputy Chief Minister said that he would not like to comment on this issue since they are yet to discuss the matter.
“Let us first discuss the issue among the partners of the MDA. It is not will be good on my part to say anything on this at the moment,” Tynsong said.
Earlier on Friday, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, after the State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting, had stated that the UDP should be given the opportunity to propose the common candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat since it is one of the major partners in the coalition.
Tynsong had earlier supported the idea mooted by the UDP president, Dr Donkupar Roy to have a common candidate for the Shillong Parliamentary seat and stated that the issue would be deliberated in details by all the allies of the Meghalaya Democratic Allliance (MDA).
“Personally, I strongly support this idea to have a common candidate for the both Tura and Shillong Parliamentary seats. It will be really a great thing if we can have a common candidate for both the seats,” Tynsong had stated.
