TURA | Aug 13, 2019:
The Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the order passed by the Lokayukta commissioner seeking a CBI led inquiry into the case against the MDC of Asanang, Ismail Marak.
“The plea seeking a stay into the investigation has been rejected by the Court and the CBI will provide its findings in the next hearing slated later this month,” said lawyer representing Nilbath, PT Sangma.
The Lokayukta had on July 24 asked for an inquiry to be done by the CBI into allegations of graft that were raised by social activist, Nilbath Marak (Dingnen).
The Lokayukta commissioner had been unhappy with the investigation by the police leading to it seeking an inquiry by the central agency.
The Lokayukta case had named the MDC along with two of the contractors, Kubon Sangma and another Nikseng Sangma in the alleged case of graft.
Unhappy with the decision of the Lokayukta, Kubon Sangma, through a writ petition (WP) had sought a stay into the investigation.
Dingnen through the Lokayukta had sought investigation into various contracts given by the MDC to the two above mentioned contractors, most of which have not been completed on the ground. The amount referred to is the Rs 1 crore from the development funds from the GHADC.
Interestingly, one of the case accused under Lokayukta, Nikseng was addressed through the WP by Kubon. However, as Nikseng didn’t have a representative in Court, an order of today’s case is expected to be delivered to him shortly.
