SHILLONG | May 13, 2019:
One person identified as Romeo Lyngdoh was killed after being shot with an AK-47 rifle by two miscreants at Lapalang village about 12 kms from Pynursla on Sunday night at around 10.30 pm.
The deceased originally hailed from Pongtung village. But after his marriage, he went to settle at Lapalang village. The villagers heard three gunshots and came out of their houses only to find out two people armed with an AK-47 rifle.
According to the villagers, when they had asked the two people to reveal their identities, the two armed miscreants instead told them to go inside their houses and later fled into the jungle.
Meanwhile, police informed that the deceased had a close connection with the businessmen from Bangladesh.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills SP, Claudia Lyngwa said that the two armed miscreants know the deceased very well. According to her, the deceased would have not come out of his house late at night when the armed miscreants had asked him to come out.
Meanwhile, the SP said that it will be difficult to ascertain whether the two armed miscreants are HNLC cadres or not. “We would first need to establish before coming to any conclusion. There are possibilities that they might be members of a militant outfit since they were armed with an AK-47 rifle,” Lyngwa said.
She, however, stated that it is really unfortunate that such a thing has taken place when normalcy is returning back to the State. The SP said that they have found the bullet pellets at the house of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the body was brought for post mortem to Shillong Civil Hospital today at around 1.20 pm. The body was handed over to the relatives after the post mortem.
