In an unfortunate incident, a minor was killed in a road accident which took place at around 4:10 PM on Tuesday, in Selbalgre, West Garo Hills.

The deceased has been identified as Deangchaki G. Momin, a 12-year-old boy hailing from Sasatgre. He was a student of class 7, studying at Rongram HS School, Tura.

Police preliminary enquiry suggested that the vehicle was found near Selbalgre towards Oragitok road on a sharp turn, the vehicle skidded and turned on one side where the minor boy, who was seated in the rear carriage of vehicle came under the vehicle and was crushed to death on spot.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Civil Hospital Tura for a Post Mortem and further necessary legal formalities are being observed, according to police.

“Apparently there was a mechanical defect in Steering of vehicle due to which the driver couldn’t engage sharp turn, however comprehensive enquiry is on to find out the actual cause of accident,” said SP Tura MG Raghavendra Kumar.

The driver of the vehicle Sengrak G Momin of Durakalkgre (34 years) has been arrested. Both the driver and the vehicle belong to Durakalakgre village of Rongram.

ANOTHER CASE OF ACCIDENT REPORTED IN TIKRIKILLA

In yet another incident, a minor girl was killed in a road accident at Tikrikilla area of West Garo Hills on Monday.

The minor girl has been identified as Normodha Rabha, 7-years-old, daughter of Harichandra Rabha hailing from Sorokpara.

According to police, the information was given by locals of Sorokpara village that one auto registering B/R no. ML 08C 6615 which was coming from Chibinang towards Bogularbhita on the way hit one school going girl.

The accident took place on the roadside near the Rabha grocery shop and the driver of the vehicle ran away immediately after the incident, the public reported to the police.

The injured victim was brought to the Tikrikilla Primary Health Centre for treatment but since her condition was critical doctors referred her to Goalpara. Shockingly, she succumbed to her injuries on the way.

These accidents once again display the kind of rash driving being perpetrated by drivers who have no care and concern for pedestrians while they speed on the roads.
