It was a swearing in ceremony unlike Meghalaya had ever witnessed before as BJP rallied its top leaders including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP President Amit Shah and probable Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio among others , as 11 MLAs of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance were sworn in at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh who was present on the occasion on Tuesday exuded confidence that the newly formed NPP-led, Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) with Conrad Sangma as the Chief Minister will weather the test of time and turn out to be a strong coalition in Meghalaya.
Talking to reporters soon after the 11 MLAs of the MDA government was sworn in by Meghalaya Governor, Ganga Prasad on Tuesday, Rajnath said, “I am confident that the MDA coalition will provide better governance to the people of Meghalaya”.
He further congratulated Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his cabinet colleagues.
To a question on the sporadic cases of violence in Tripura, Rajnath refused to comment.
Meanwhile, NDPP legislature Neiphiu Rio who is all set to be the next Chief Minister of Nagaland, said, ” This alliance will be very strong backed by BJP and I hope development will come around in Northeast India and as they have lifted the 90-10 to 100 percent and we don’t have resources of our own and these are obstacles which have been removed”.
