Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek today praised the Nepali community in Meghalaya while talking about their rich culture and heritage as well as the need to preserve them.
He spoke at a cultural ‘Teej’ Programme today organized by the Goreto Socio-Cultural and Welfare Society, Shillong at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.
The ‘Teej’ celebration saw numerous artists from Nepal performing live folk music and dance while highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Nepalese. The artists were from Nepal Academy of Music and Drama.
Hek also welcomed the artists from Nepal and praised their talent which they portrayed with extravagance.
The programme witnessed a cultural exchange whereby folk dances of Meghalaya were performed by artists from the state whereas performances by folk artists from Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal were also showcased.
It may be mentioned that Teej is a vibrant monsoon festival celebrated across India and Nepal by women folk and girls with songs, dance and prayer rituals. The folk music and dances add more flavour to the traditional value of Teej festival. Goreto socio-cultural and welfare society has been organizing the Teej festival yearly, since a decade.

formed in the year 2007, in Shillong and registered in 2015 . It works towards promoting
cultural awareness and social up-liftment at the grass root level.
