People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chairman, Pynshngain N Syiem claimed that the PDF aimed to bring in mechanism which is more stringent to deal with the problem of influx and illegal immigration in the State.
While addressing newsmen after the party general conference here on Saturday, Syiem said that the mechanism which the party intends to introduce has more teeth compared to the entry and exit points proposed by the Mukul Sangma led MUA-II Government.
While the present is batting on the entry-exit mechanism to deal with the problem, he said that they are planning to adopt the mechanism where the people who wants to settle in the State cannot avoid the traditional institutions like the Dorbar Shnong.
The PDF chairman also impressed upon strengthening the traditional institutions which are very critical to be able to deal with the problem of influx and illegal immigration in an effective manner.
Asked on the stand of the party with regards to ILP, the PDF’s chief ministerial candidate said, “We will have to examine whether implementation of the ILP is effective. If yes, then we will not hesitate to implement this law if voted to power.”
