With the Congress admitting that it is facing difficulties to find good candidates in constituencies represented by party deserters, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday said that the Congress is in its final stages of declaring the candidates after zeroing it down on probable candidates.
While admitting that there have been new political development in constituencies where the Congress deserters hail from, Dr Sangma said that after due diligence, the congress has zeroed it down on names of some people from these constituencies and work for selection of the candidates from Meghalaya is done with and the final approval from the AICC is awaited.
It maybe mentioned that the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, Working president, Vincent Pala had on Tuesday had stated that the congress is facing difficulties to find good candidates in constituencies that were kept vacant after the then congress legislators switched their allegiance to other parties and also those constituencies where few of the congress legislator have decided to call it quits.
During the past few weeks, the congress suffered multiple blows following the desertion of prominent congress leaders with winability factors just ahead of the polls, some of whom left to join the National People’s Party while others jumped over to Bharatiya Janata Party.
Earlier, talking tough, the congress vowed to teach deserters a lesson by defeating them at the elections and expressed determination that the new and fresh places who will contest in their stead will become victorious.
