Irritated over the delay in payment of salaries, the teachers from Garo Hills have threatened to launch agitation under the banner All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA), if their demands are not fulfilled before November 13.

As per the memo, which was sent to the education minister, the teachers have sought an immediate redress of their problems adding that without their dues paid to them, they have been facing enormous financial constraints.

The teachers are demanding the release of their 3 months salaries between August and October this year.

“Exams of our children are due as are the fees, bus fare, school fees or our children will be allowed to appear for their annual exams. We therefore request you to kindly release our salaries at the earliest,” said the memo.

The teachers added that a decision was taken in their last meeting on Oct 26 on the matter.

“If our pending salaries are not released by Nov 13, we will have no other option than to resort to democratic agitations all across Garo Hills,” threatened the teachers.
