Days after reports of pre-poll violence rocked Home Minister’s constituency — Sohiong, police on Monday are still investigating into a case whereby four HSPDP supporters from Sohiong were allegedly manhandled by the two security personnel of Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh on January 19 at around 8.30 pm.
East Khasi Hills SP, Davis R Marak today informed that the police have received two FIRs in connection with the incident.
“We have received an FIR from both the parties. We have to properly investigate the matter before taking any kind of action,” Marak said.
According to the SP, the security personnel of HDR alleged that the driver of the tourist was drunk.
Marak said that the second FIR alleged that the security personnel manhandled them.
It may be mentioned in the FIR, the two security personnel alleged that the driver of a tourist taxi was drunk and tried to ram against the police vehicle escorting the Home Minister at Weilyngkut.
Responding to a query, he said that arrests are not necessary in small cases as per the Supreme Court ruling.
“It is not necessary to arrest if people are cooperating with the investigation,” he said.
